It was April 2013 that we received a text message that simply said “Pray for Bennett”. His parents had tried to wake him that morning and could not. We were not completely sure what was happening but we prayed for him. A few minutes later we received another text message that Bennett was gone. Gone!
A few days later PowerHouse players in their game jerseys stood by Bennett’s casket. They prayed together and then they said their team chant. Finish Strong! Finish Strong! Finish Strong!
I was always struck by the timing of the text messages that his parents sent. It still humbles me. In an unbelievable time of crisis they thought of his team and his teammates.
They wanted his team to know what was going on and those players and their families to pray for Bennett. His parents had seen many of those boys kneeling together, praying for each other at practices, games and meetings. They needed those prayers for what they were about to go through.
We have been blessed to be a part of a lot of successful football teams and seasons but nothing surpasses the gift of seeing these players pray for each other.
I wanted to share this video as a reminder for you to remember Bennett and his family. We will always love #68.
